Marie Laure lives with her father in Paris within walking distance of the Museum of Natural History where he works as the master of the locks (there are thousands of locks in the museum). When she is six, she goes blind, and her father builds her a model of their neighbourhood, every house, every manhole, so she can memorize it with her fingers and navigate the real streets with her feet and cane. When the Germans occupy Paris, father and daughter flee to Saint-Malo on the Brittany coast, where Marie-Laure's agoraphobic great uncle lives in a tall, narrow house by the sea wall.

I almost gave up early on. It was hard for me to grasp the characters and the time settings, but it all started to make a little more sense maybe 30 minutes in. Eventually I was hooked and I really loved this story. It was clever and sensitive and exciting and sad.

It is both a deadly serious and seriously funny look at mindfulness and meditation as the next big public health revolution.

Ed is having a hard time - at work, in his love life and, well, generally. Then he meets an unlikely Buddhist - who drinks and smokes and talks his kind of language. Bit by bit, things begin to change...Ed doesn't always take Geoff's advice. Or, when he does he lapses at the crucial moment. His path to understanding is not a straight one, especially as life keeps throwing more and more 'stuff' at him. Often he fails - like most of us, in fact.

Also, this book (and much other advice) is geared towards learning to love your new single life after a relationship, if you've been single a long time and just lost a new relationship you are RETURNING to single so its a different situation all together.
