Stop reading this review right now.

You're still reading??? Why?!? This is time that you could be putting into listening to this awesome piece of apocalyptic sci fi!

Ok if you are still persisting with reading this review I may as well give you more info. This story ramps up the action from the very beginning and doesn't let up until the very end. I love the accessibility of the science elements that are introduced, making most of the premise of the main 'quest' quite believable. It is also really refreshing to have a genuine post-apocalyptic setting that DOESN'T involve undead or some form of viral problem. A nice, fresh idea for humanity's sudden demise.

Finally, if the smoking hot combo of RC Bray and Julie Wheelan aren't possibly the best narrating duo in the biz (as evidenced by the brilliant performances in this recording!) then I'll eat a mouse.

Still reading? Stop. Buy. You're welcome.

Mate - if there was ever a story of sheer determination and focus towards one's life goals, the story of Cmd Chris Hadfield's journey into space tops it!

I am not one to usually read biographies, but I remember the fantastic photography, and awesome 'in-school' Q+A sessions that Chris did whilst in space, and thought it would be an interesting character to read about.....I was not dissappointed. There was plenty of space related technical jargon to keep even the staunchest of space nerds (like me!) happy, but also a nice smattering of background story of the effect his single-minded drive had on his family and friends. He can do a pretty good job at narration too!

I heartily recommend this one to all.

The story continued to be engaging, fast paced and full of great takes on sci-fi tropes. However, I can't shake my disappointment about how the end of the story was handled. Not a comment on the story itself, but on the apparent rush to tie up all the loose ends. I feel like there was a lot of detail that was glossed over, and storylines that were speedily wrapped up in abnormally fast scenes. However, I feel that there is more than enough potential for more stories to come out of this universe he has created, and I hope that happens! Once again, spectacular performance by R.C. Bray!

A well described world with a very interesting take on traditional magic. A bit slow at some points but readers who enjoy the lead up to a plan's execution will love this book. As always, Michael Kramer nails every aspect of the read.

It was an easy decision to pick up Book 2 in this series almost immediately after finishing the first - and I was not disappointed! The story continues to satisfy at every twist and turn, with the characters developing even more...to a point where you are heavily invested in them all - good and bad (whatever that is at this point!) It moved well in comparison to the first book though could sometimes forsake time explaining situations for the action of the actual situation. The performances of Kramer and Reading were once again phenomenal! Such perfect voices for reading a fantasy epic! Only complaint is that sometimes they would pronounce names differently which was a little off putting, and Reading changed the accents of some original Characters from the first book they didn't make sense to change (the slaver that originally traded Kaladin). Minor gripes among a stellar performance. Looking forward to Book 3!!!!

This is my first foray into the works of Brandon Sanderson and I have to say that I am extremely impressed with the quality of this book. There are no apologies made for the significant amount of scene setting and prefacing in this book, which helped to make this world a vibrant and busy place. The magic system he employs is unique and provides ample opportunity for fun and creative uses! However, for me the most striking thing about this book was how satisfying the twists and turns of the story. I found myself wishing on multiple occasions for the story to go in a particular direction - and it did every time! Immensely satisfying indeed! Not to mention that AMAZING performances of Michael Kramer and Kate Reading. Together they brought each character to life in ways I couldn't achieve in reading it. Looking forward to listening to more collaborations of these three in the future. Highly recommended.

I personally found this book very enjoyable with a mix of modern and vintage sci-fi elements. However I sincerely wish most of the story was further explored in more detail. Many sections of the story felt glossed over and were finished before they felt like they had begun. Whilst not as gripping as 'Ready Player One' it shared a very similar vibe and is worth a read if you are a fan of his earlier work. Wheaton still unstoppable - great performance.

Before I chose to get this book, I was concerned that I would not get many of the 80s references that so many reviewers before me said were in this book. However, not only did this book guide me through many of the references but I now have this overwhelming desire to reread this book and begin to make notes on all the movies, games and pop culture that I missed! What a fantastic story! I was engaged from the very first chapter to the very last sentence! Who wouldn't jump at the chance to own your own X-wing! My first experience listening to Will Wheaton but his performance was spectacular. Like "1984", it is possible we will be looking back on this book, having predicted numerous paths in our future. This book is a must own. Period.

Whilst I concur with other reviewers that the book is slow to start but grabs you eventually, I kept getting frustrated at the often, all too elaborate thought processes that the author went into with some characters situations. At one point, I had to laugh at how obviously hard the author was trying to make me feel for a characters particular situation! However, the plot itself was exciting and appealed to my desire to see some real sci-fi technology used and explained well. Once again, R.C. Bray nails the performance, bringing so much life to each character. Looking forward to the next one!

As was the case with Book 2, still great characters with funny and emotional interactions, but the story does not live up to the pace and content of Book 1. I thought it was a good take on the whole RPG angle but a lot of the story felt very repetitive, given the different points of view between the groups on the quest. Despite this, parts of the story were quite enjoyable and overall it was worth listening to. Looking forward to Book 4!
