'Somebody's going to be murdered at the ball tonight. It won't appear to be a murder, and so the murderer won't be caught. Rectify that injustice and I'll show you the way out.' It is meant to be a celebration, but it ends in tragedy. As fireworks explode overhead, Evelyn Hardcastle, the young and beautiful daughter of the house, is killed. But Evelyn will not die just once. Until Aiden - one of the guests summoned to Blackheath for the party - can solve her murder, the day will repeat itself over and over again.

outside of my normal genre, so i was unable to finish it. excellent creative wording in the descriptive phrases.
if crime and detective thrillers are your genre then you will enjoy this interesting twist on things.
about halfway thru i found the strange involvement of the footman and plague doctor to jarring. they had no real place in the cast of characters or the flow of tha narrative, adding a rather more supernatural and starge feel that was ruining the picture. so being confused couldn't persevere for another 7 hours. but i will not ask for my credit back, because it is a quality work

a YA series that can be enjoyed by all ages. Beautiful coming of age story, many themes and emotions very relevant to youth. dragons feature in the artwork but are not central to the story, but rather an accessory. the main theme is courage. no swearing, blasphemy or sex scenes. very refreshing and not missed.

its like reading an outline for a tv production script, which i think this book could be turned into a tv sci fi series. its needs actors to inject some emotion and script writers to write some tension and emotion into it.
the whole story is bland and lacking characterization and feeling. The dialogue between family members is unemotional and stilted.

the ideas are great but the dryness of the books and terrible narrator really pull it down. the narrator has a 'plummy' american accent and can't do any of the other accents properly or even differentiate between characters. top points to the author for choosing to bring Australia into his story, but again the narrators horrible accents and pronouncement of Brisbane made me cringe every time!

Couldn't finish it. the first 3 hours is just boring gamer geekey details and no action. then some action which made me persevere then back to boring geeky details. just couldn't keep going after 10 hours.
I think the publishers summary made it much more appealing sounding than it actually is and the fact that the movie cover made it look exciting, and that audible put a top narrator on the job. it may well be watchable as a movie but totally uninspiring to listen to.
Maybe if you are a hardcore gamer geek you might like it.
