I thoroughly enjoyed this book. A talking axe with a bad attitude, a world out to get you, a hand full of loyal friends, a balanced story you win some you lose some, and great voices to boot. What else do you need.
I read the comments for this book and thought this could be interesting, and boy was I right. This book is worth the purchase.

This series of books holds many great stories of the underdog making it great with lots of magic, politics, scheeming, plotting and war scenes of epic proportions. The book is worth a so called read.... The only minor con I see, is the to list of things that could or would have dire consequences on the world, seem to keep growing but very rarely do you see one of them completed before another one pops up.

The Narrator has a unique style that I initially did not like but it grew on me through book 1, now I would no like to hear anyone else's voice for these characters as each has its own style and inflections.

In this book you will see another war, more betrails, artful majic, a bard of sorts, political plots uncovered, cows, cheese, another god and a mission launched to address some of those pesky world thretting events that I was talking about.

No spoilers here sorry... Read it to find out...

The Mavericks is a great side series to the main merry band of pirates series. Bought together by skippy and the pirates to save the day in the original book and they continue to astound their adopted clients with their lucky breaks and hair brained ideas that regularly pay off. Fortunately or unfortunately the senior races continue to underestimate the human race and the Mavericks. I love how these 2 series often cross roads in different ways it makes reading these stories exciting.

The story is interesting but seems to go nowhere. Slow start and very anti climactic. There are several battels through the story, each time the main character who is meant to be a great swordsman gets knocked senseless or gravely injured. Nothing in the story screams great swordsman, perhaps clumsy swordsman. The last battle is no better than the rest. The story is missing something.
Saying this I would purchase the next book to see where the author is going with it. It has potential however, if it like this one he has lost me for good.
The performance is excellent done by one of my favorite performers Nick Podehl. He can make any book sound good. He was the reason I selected this book.

Good book but omg the ending is literally a cliff hanger. Seriously like hanging over a cliff with a fraying rope. Does it break sending them plumiting to their deaths or does that last strand hold until they can get to safety..... Inconciderate Beer Cans....

Great performance and the bloopers reel were very funny.

I love this series, the book is enjoyable if feels like you are taking a light harted journey with the characters and the nerator makes them all come alive with his unique voices for each of the characters.

Keep up the good work. I can't wait for the next book
