Story
A prisoner sits on death row in a high-security prison. His only escape is through the words he dreams about, the world he conjures around him using the power of language. For the reality of his world is brutal and stark. He is not named, nor do we know his crime. But he listens. He listens to the story of York, the prisoner in the cell next to him who has been sentenced to death. He hears The Lady, a mitigation specialist who is piecing together York's past. He watches as The Lady falls in love with The Priest and wonders if love is still possible in this place.

I learnt about this book after listening to the author’s story on the “this is Actually Happening” podcast, and was moved to look up the book.
From the outset, I was not disappointed. The reviews I read before downloading the book were spot on. It’s well worth listening to.

I’ve really enjoyed this series but this book felt like it came up short when it ended as it felt like there was loose ends for some of the characters.... unless this book isn’t the end of the series?

The only issue I had was that I listened to this book after listening to the Belgariad Series and while the book was fantastic on the whole, I was a little frustrated by the differences in pronunciations of different names and the tone of individual characters.
