To hear John Cleese struggle to read as he fought back the laughter brings a dimension to this audiobook that you couldn’t get from reading a printed copy or, indeed, from a different narrator. The biggest problem with the book is that it is not long enough! We are given hours of enjoyment with tales of school and university days, but only glimpses of the triumphs of Fawlty Towers and A Fish called Wanda. If there isn’t a vol 2, there should be!

I have just finished listening but can’t believe it’s over already. Wonderful story of a great man’s life. Stories of his early times at the BBC and his encounters with royalty are just as entertaining as his tales of a life spent experiencing nature for all of us. I am looking forward to the time next year when I think that I have forgotten enough of it to listen again.
