Unlike some of the big names in fantasy whose work grows more sprawling, laboured and insipid, Abercrombie gets tighter, tougher and wittier. His characters are a dark delight and his world a tortuous tangle that inspires fury or a wry smile from those forced to fight their way through it.

The perfect combination of author and voice. Abercrombie delivers something truly original in a genre saturated with bland tropes and predictable characters. This trilogy is bursting with flawed heroes, dark humour and unexpected turns.
Steven Pacy's interpretation is masterful. Distinctive accents and voices bring the characters to life and perfectly captures Abercrombie's taste for dark and bloody irony.

A very satisfying end to another excellent series by Joe Abercrombie.

While this trilogy lacks some of the wry humour of previous books, it is packed with the engaging, well-named characters, bloody adventure and smart turn of phrase that Abercrombie excels at.

Ben Elliott's performance is spot on.
