What a story, lots of twists and turns. First person would have made more sense though. I wondered who Martin was on a number of occasions. But what is it with the narrator? Suffering from covid and can only string together three or sometimes four words? I’d listen to another story by this author but not if recorded with the same narrator.

Great story about WWII in Italy with some fantastic characters. The author felt a need to dramatise unnecessarily and the narrator then pushed it even further, nearly breaking out in tears on occasions. Shame

Author has lost the plot and narrator is awful

What a disappointment after the first book. This sequel should have remained un-written. The author's obsession with interracial sex which adds nothing to the story is disturbing. The narrator of the first book must have refused to read this garbage and the new narrator is plain awful they way he characterises the various players.

Drawn out and tedious in large parts. The narrator makes things worse with unnecessary gravitas and often extensive monotony. Very disappointing after some 20 or so enjoyable books by the same author

The Author takes great delight in explaining medieval tortures in great detail while ignoring Pol Pot, Stalin, Idi Amin etc. A most unpleasant read with many doubtful conclusions.

I didn't want to give it one star but that is the lowest option, sadly
