I first read Red Sister as soon as it was released. I remember being very excited getting the paperback and to get lost in another one of Lawrence's worlds. Mark Lawrence is one of my favourite authors. The world building he provides is simple but I find it extensively immersive as it allows your imagination to bring it to life in a very personal way. His characters feel so real to me, he incorporates their personality into every line of their dialogue and you can really believe they are that character.

Needless to say I loved reading Red Sister. I never expected to relate to young novice battle nuns but I did. Nona is such a great protagonist, such a unique character and totally unforgettable. The other characters are teeming with life and charm. I loved Clara's character especially, she is hilarious. And hearing her be portrayed by Helen Duff was amazing. The different accents Duff does suit the different characters so well and Clara's was my favourite.

This is the second time an audio book has made me appreciate a book I've already read on paper that much more. The first time was Red Queen's War by Lawrence, another amazing narration and portrayal of characters. Both narrators really brought both the world and characters to life for me and I am so grateful to be able to walk those paths for a second time, though in different shoes.
