This book takes you inside the eye and introduces you to the mind of an owner and her horse. It's more personal than factual although there are facts mentioned. Every time facts were mentioned, I experienced no jerk in my gathering and absorbing of the relationship, because every time, it was purely added information being shared in the context to enhance the moment. It's well written, it's being lived and it's genuinely being shared with us the readers/listeners. It's personal and the whole experience has come from one who has a deep understanding of what's behind the silly superficial norm we get fed as a substitute for truth today. I've seen for myself that in life today, if you want to extract some warmth from the spreading coldness, you yourself have to stop, look and listen. Inside the silent eye of the horse, or any animal for that matter, or person, lies a world of experience and reaction that when blended together, create an individual personality. Knowing each other under these circumstances is what is missing today. Listen to how it's done. Okay, it's done with a horse, but this rubs off, or at least it has with me. I look at people differently now too. Somehow I feel freer because I finished this book. I am about to start it again and I also bought the kindle version. This is like entering another world and it happens to be one that I'm choosing to make my future normal now, it was that beautiful. Soft, gently, caring, genuine, attentive, patient mutual relating. I feel more equip to face things now. Fortunately, I volunteer with horses at the moment and have tried and proved this to be so. What I loved the most was the fact that I approached the horses in the same natural way, 3 weeks before I sort a book on horses out. I was however, told to do the opposite. I was told to show them who is boss, but something didn't feel right and it was because I connected with the eye of the horse and it spoke to me deeply also. You won't be disappointed with this book even if you're not into horses. Not if you absorb the overall gentleness of the technique of how to connect, listen and relate in return.

I have enjoyed some spontaneous quotes by this man so I decided to listen to a book. I experienced him draining the audience of laughter many times while seeming to need and enjoy it. He speaks of "Milking things for what they are worth" but it seemed to me he needed to hear the laughter a little too much and it was also distracting. I've listened to and read a lot of philosophy, psychology Christian and non Christian, Buddhist and Zen. I conclude now, that Spiritualism has degenerated over the years and I thought, even though there were many statements in this book that count as worthy, that this is just another a version of the degeneration and we are buying into it. This is not the highest plain to be reached at all, this is kindergarten comedy with man's ego filling in the blanks. Today, as long as we say "The Ancients" people are mesmerized. I say, stand alone and discover for yourself because, what if they have it wrong. After all, if you follow this man's train of thought, all you are doing is following this man's train of thought. If you have a different fingerprint to the rest of the entire human race, then why do you follow another man's train of thought. If you use this stuff to help you expand you own inner thinking, spitting out all the hocus-pocus involved and just sticking to the essentials FOR YOU, not what sounds great - then you can apply what you have learned and make definite changes to your life and behavior. If you listen to this sort of thing because you like to be known as associating with the HIP guru's then you are more than likely going to remain where you are and need another HIP guru to listen to again....... in order to get your intellectually spiritual high. Does this world feed us what is good for us, or is it all just a business designed to bring us back for more. If people were applying these so called spiritual techniques, then the world would be improving and word would be spreading and more people would be growing internally. BUT the only thing growing in this world is medication, entertainment, violence and more guru businesses like this. I guess it all boils down to whether you attach yourself to this line of thinking or use a tiny bit of it to think for yourselves and get YOUR life into the order you yearn for - application, rather than another book by.....? I made a few notes as I read, just a few. My summary I suppose you could call it. Now I will concentrate on my notes and apply them to my life because I came to the book looking for inspiration to unravel something in my own life, not to follow a man or to gar gar over yet another guru. Nobody has the recipe for my happiness but me. I only came to this book to water what is already inside me but I didn't find too much. What I did find I will definitely use, and I'll milk THAT for all it's worth.

Firstly I have to say that the narrator of this book was absolutely superb. The entire listening experience for me was so very real because Rachel was SO there. She wasn't reading this book she was really in the character and she portrayed such a genuine account that I believe Wendy, the Author, would be absolutely thrilled at the result. Secondly, the author has done a stellar job of allowing us into the mind, life, and experience of someone living with Dementia. I did Dementia Nursing for 15 years when I was younger and I saw a lot from the clientele but this is a whole new angle and I so much appreciated listening to it all from this perspective. To be forgotten and cast aside by cold stares on top of a huge inner question mark,to be treated by the medical system in merely a matter of fact manner, to continue watching your daughters knowing you are destined to continue fading over whatever period of time, all must be a frightening experience for any age, but to land on this runway in your late 50's knowing you have quite a few years ahead of you.....well, you only have to give it some thought to finish this sentence yourself. I am a better person for having listened to this book and I know I will be able to give something more than before whenever I come across someone living with Dementia now. Thank you so much, Wendy and a very big thank you to Rachel for your genuineness, you are a treasure. The reader/listener will travel in the shoes, walking the steps, hearing the thoughts and feeling the reactions of what goes on in the mind of one person at least, who is living with Dimentia and re calibrating everything to suit.
