Story
A story of desperation, resolution and small-town prejudice played out against the blistering extremes of life on the land. Amid the worst drought to ravage Australia in a century, a farmer turns his gun on his family and then himself. As questions mount and suspicion casts a long shadow over the parched town, specialist investigator Aaron Falk is forced to confront the community that rejected him 20 years earlier.

I enjoyed this story, it was easy to follow and painted a vivid picture. Absolutely loved Steve Shanahan’s voice, he gave the simplistic nature of Falks character a wholehearted and authentic Aussie edge.

Story
Joel Creasey gave his first stand-up performance at 17. Now he's a comedy superstar, performing sell-out events in Australia and around the world. Even the late, great Joan Rivers was a fan, inviting him to open for her last Broadway shows. From his school days and growing up gay in suburban Australia to meeting his idols and what life is like on the road now, Thirsty is full of his most hilarious, heartbreaking, outrageous, scandalous, incredible and most personal stories.

Honest and truly funny

Wow what a read (listen)! After finishing Jimmy Barnes' Working Class boy and being taken through the truly heartbreaking and mortifying childhood he had, Joel's story was so refreshing and light hearted. Joel is absolutely, unapologetically himself in this book and it was great hearing of his lovely, privileged upbringing. His kind heart shines through and his ability to find the humour in all things is inspiring and bloody entertaining. Joel, I'm sure you are scrolling through the reviews on an almost daily basis and babes, well done, well done!

Story
Meshel Laurie has had a very varied career, but whether she's working the front desk at a brothel or anchoring drive-time radio, it's always had one common thread: she is a self-confessed workaholic. Thankfully, over the years she's learnt to temper her tendencies with a bit of Buddhist perspective - and you can too! Meshel shares her own experiences with wit and wisdom and explores how to navigate the modern workplace (and stay sane).

So relatable

I found this so easy to listen to as the path that Meshel has been on through her life (minus the brothel receptionist job) is so relatable. Throughout this audio book I constantly had the thought of "yes, me too" and made a mental list of at least a dozen people in my life who I also felt would benefit from listening to this. My only mild complaint is that I missed that infamous humour of Meshels although I know that she was simply trying to pass on insight without the distraction of too many jokes.
Well worth the listen and a great place to start in your journey to discover Buddhism.
