I bought it as a daily deal. A couple of chapters in, I wasn't sure I would finish it. By the end, I loved it.

It's a good story which provides a great setting for a realistic discussion of China/Australia relationships. The final conspiracy and weather events are a bit unrealistic but the background discussion is serious,

I loved every minute. It was a really good presentation to use different voices for each interviewee. It appears to explain so much about Russian, or Soviet, fortitude. I was brought up with stories of rationing and the blitz but the hardship of Nazi occupation on the eastern front must have been a living hell.

Even after watching the TV series, I still found this book fascinating. Great treatment of the subject. Excellent narration even if I have never previously heard Boer pronounced in that way.

It is amazing how such a beautiful story can be woven out of such an horrific background. If this novel was inspired by a true story, then I would love to know the true story.

My first Shamsie book was Burnt Shadows. I didn't expect another as good. She has exceeded my expectation. Now, I want to read every word she has ever written.

I thought that I was not going to like it but I guess that the learning, at the beginning is necessary for better understanding of what comes later. The performance was very clear but I felt that it was a little quick.

I was going to give it, 3s because I found it too macho American. However the manner in which the relationships were dealt with improved and it grew on me.

The first two chapters are particularly confronting. If this is even a half accurate reflection of American society, it is horrific.

A great story, or stories brought alive and told in a superb manner. It's just a pity that we can't show maps in an audio format.
