In 1960, the Imperial War Museum began a momentous task. A team of academics, archivists and volunteers set about tracing ordinary men and women who had lived through one of the most harrowing periods of modern history, the First World War. Veterans were interviewed in details about their day-to-day experiences, on and off the front. The project has since grown to be the most important archive of its kind in the world, and provides a unique account of life during the Great War.

Listening to the actual voices of those soldiers that were part of this terrible episode in human history is unbelievable! Their accounts and thoughts, built in order with the historical events makes this audio book one of a kind.

From the earliest civilizations to the 21st century: a global journey through human history, published alongside a landmark BBC One television series. Our understanding of world history is changing, as new discoveries are made on all the continents and old prejudices are being challenged. In this truly global journey, Andrew Marr revisits some of the traditional epic stories, from classical Greece and Rome to the rise of Napoleon, but surrounds them with less familiar material, from Peru to the Ukraine, China to the Caribbean.

I am pretty bad with languages, tried several times to study Spanish, French and other ones with no success. Here there is a strong belief that this time I will succeed. The study works well with commuting to work and back.

A Short History of Nearly Everything is Bill Bryson's quest to understand everything that has happened from the Big Bang to the rise of civilization. He takes subjects that normally bore the pants off most of us, like geology, chemistry, and particle physics, and aims to render them comprehensible to people who have never thought they could be interested in science. In the company of some extraordinary scientists, Bill Bryson reveals the world in a way most of us have never seen it before.

Loved this book, enjoyable and educational. Stumbled upon this book by chance when I was looking for a book on 20th century history and got a few billion of centuries more than expected, and sincerely glad it worked out this way. Highly recommended!
