I first heard this adaption on Radio 4 when I was a child, and immediately grabbed the nearest cassette tape to start recording it. I've cherished the show ever since and listened to it hundreds of times. Every voice in it was a superstar actor at the time. It's nice to see this Audible version - the only change is the original superb opening music is slightly altered (not sure why they did this, but I'm sure they had their reasons). Also includes some new introductory dialogue which I had never heard before until now by Ian Holm.

TFM's overall philosophy condensed into a single hard-hitting volume. It's short because there is no waffle, fluff or fat. The book serves as a series of important reminders for men of all ages. Deserving of repeated listens.

A MOAB of truth aimed at the sick demented evil that is modern Leftist Progressivism. If you have a creeping feeling that our society is going insane, that we live in "clown world" or that you are starting to constantly moderate your speech or opinions for fear of hitting a "tripwire", read this book without delay.

I avoid women as much as possible and keep ALL interactions to basic polite platonic chit-chat. I avoid dating, I will not return any flirtation and would NEVER marry. Why? Read this book and find out.

Catherine's book is a definite eye-opener; her slide from stratospheric social heights and career glory into the abyss of alcoholism makes it clear that this can easily happen to any of us. Her ditch-digging efforts to rebuild a life free from alcohol is also inspirational and full of practical strategies. Worth a listen even if you just think of yourself as a mild drinker who could use an extra AFD a week. Her honest reading style is unique, rather like having coffee with someone and listening to them chat. Non-preachy, naked honesty, and good writing. Great stuff Catherine!

I originally read the paperback of this book some years ago, and it's fabulous to revisited in the Audiobook version. An absolutely ridiculous and astonishing tale of brutal warfare. It gets no more hardcore than Stalingrad. Superbly read by Peter Noble. Bravo!

This book may not be for everybody; I grew up in Wigan so the book is filled with things that I have seen and remember. Orwell also rattles off a lot of statistics and facts in the book for long sections, but these things aside it's still a masterpiece. Jeremy Northam's reading is absolutely first rate; in fact, I can even imagine that I am listening to Orwell himself speaking. When I first read the book some years ago I found it very hard going, but Jeremy Northam brings it to life.
