All Rath wants is a quiet, peaceful life. Unfortunately, his father brings him too much trouble - and too many debts to pay - for that to ever be possible. When the local crime lord drags Rath out of bed and tells him he has three days to pay his father's latest debt, Rath doesn't know what to do. There's no way to come up with so much money in so little time. Then a friend poses an idea just ridiculous enough to work: enter the Tournament of Losers, where every 75 years, peasants compete for the chance to marry into the noble and royal houses.

Charley is a cleaner by day and a professional gambler by night. She might be haunted by her tragic past but she's never thought of herself as anything or anyone special. Until, that is, things start to go terribly wrong all across the city of Manchester. Between plagues of rats, firestorms, and the gleaming blue eyes of a sexy Scottish werewolf, she might just have landed herself in the middle of a magical apocalypse. She might also be the only person who has the ability to bring order to an utterly chaotic new world.

This was delightfully fun and imaginative and I loved the narrator's accent that gave it added charm and authenticity. I am looking forward to the next book to find out what happens to Charlie and her group.

Hopefully, it will also fill in some world building holes and unanswered questions.

Definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys urban fantasy with a dash of chick lit.

This book is one of my favorites and I read it a lot of times. I decided to try it in Audible as well and for the most part I enjoyed it this way too. My only complaint is that the narrator's voice tended to get strident and I found myself turning down the volume a lot so it didn't feel like she was yelling.

This is a great book but I don't even care about that because Michael Lesley is so brilliantly awesome in his narration that I wouldn't have noticed if it was pure drivel (which it SO isn't, because TJ Klune doesn't write bad stuff, ever.)
Michael Lesley rocks so hard.
I've listened to a lot of Audibles and have liked some narrators very much. Michael Lesley is to the rest of narrators like Yoda is to Luke before he even knew about the Force was a thing.
I can't really call it narration. He acted this book out with perfection. Every character had such distinct and clear voice of their own, I didn't need any help telling them apart. The sound effects were cool too.
OMG, the song!!!
I laughed so hard, I was sobbing and in pain afterward. I had to rewind several times because I kept missing lyrics from laughing too loud. Actually, that happened several times during the book.
Is there some sort of award for best narrator, because he should get it immediately. Also, I am now going to buy everything he's ever narrated - I don't even care what it is.
TJ Klune, who?!
Michael Lesley 4ever!

I listened to this in one go. Yes - the whole 18 and half hours - including the ridiculous sound effect credits at the end. I can't imagine you actually need me to say that I recommend this.

PS I was kidding about TJ bit. I love him too. The ability to be both funny and heartbreaking in the same sentence requires pure genius and he does it with seeming effortlessness. This author-narrator pairing is Blessed By The Gods.
I capitalized that so now it's true.

I didn't like the narrator's staccato yet slow style. I enjoyed the story a lot more when I read it myself. I'm listening to Audible versions of all my favorites and was pleasantly surprised by the fact I actually liked some of the books even more when well narrated.
I just finished a Nalini Singh book narrated by Angela Daw and the comparison is not doing good things for Ms Raudman - sorry. Dialogue acting is good but everything else is painfully drawn out yet still managed to be choppy and disconnected in a way that gave me a headache if I listened for too long.

He's brilliant and funny and intense in just the right times. I've read the book so many times yet I still chuckled with surprise. His interpretation brought out another side to a book I already loved.
