Much better reading it yourself

I love Neil Gainman’s novels and think I own a copy of most of his published works. The audio version of Good Omens was fantastic, so I held high hopes for the audio version of this novel and was so disappointed. Mr Gainman (as the narrator in this instance) speaks with quite a soft pitch but when it’s combined with his love of downward inflection, I struggled to hear what he was saying when listening in my car (even with the volume set high). When a listener is struggling to hear what is being said, it’s hard to stay interested for long. I still love the story, just not the audio version.

Probably a good book, but...

In fairness, this is probably the sort of book I would love if I were to read it AND it wasn’t written in the first person. The reason I’ve given it a low rating is the narrator is dull and almost put me to sleep whilst I was driving. I had to really concentrate to follow the storyline as the narrator seemed to just plod along. Will give it another go, but in hard copy next time.

Wonderful

Really enjoyed Good Omens. Laugh out loud funny, great writing and great narration. Highly recommend.
