One of Deavers' Best
Reviewed: 19-08-2020
I believe this would be my third or fourth time with this story, I've read it in the past and decided the audio version would be fun. This particular book is my favourite in Deavers series for Lincoln Rhyme as it strays from the typical "clinical" feel of forensics that Deaver is known for to focus more on plot twists and character detail. The story involving illusion, creates an issue for the characters who are all about interpreting what they see, and when magics involved how much of what you see can you really believe? Absolutely a must read for anyone who loves a good thriller, even if typically crime thrillers aren't your thing this one will leave you amazed.

I was both enthralled and horrified by this story, I was well aware of the d.c snipers before this but there was so much more to it than I expected. Narration was spot on which was a pleasant surprise since it is told by the people involved.

I enjoyed this story, the narration work was good for the most part but it does not flow as it should in several parts. I still would highly recommend this audio book.

Master of suspense Jeffery Deaver returns with the latest gripping thriller featuring paraplegic forensic detective Lincoln Rhyme. Amelia Sachs is hot on the trail of a killer. She's chasing him through a department store in Brooklyn when suddenly the escalator malfunctions. The stairs give way, and several people are trapped, with one man horribly mangled by the gears. Sachs is forced to let her quarry escape as she jumps in to try to help save the victims.

A good plot with unexpected twists in typical Deaver style. I really enjoyed this story and the narrators efforts also. The only part which bugged me is the narrators voice change when the boards are being read out, silly I know bit I'm sure you will know what I mean after hearing it ;)

Such a fantastic journey, I thoroughly enjoyed the twists and turns. The narrator navigated with expert precision adding depth to the characters with defined accents. All in all I was surprised to have enjoyed this audio book as much as I have and somewhat saddened that it came to an end. If you're a fan of old world sagas with stories of great battles and magic then this shall be an excellent addition to your collection.
