Witty British humour throughout the whole book, with many great jokes. Fry's narration exceptional as always, the humour wouldn't land as well with a normal narrator

The voices barely differed much throughout, making it difficult to follow at times. Very monotone expression as well

Aside from that the story was brilliant

Probably a good book if you really love mysteries. Some interesting ideas with the structure and plot. That's about all the good I have to say about it

The characters seemed to be constructed around a preconceived plot, making them unrealistic and lacking the ability to capture the reader's interest.

The plot was very unrealistic and shows the authors lack of understanding regarding police procedure and the legal system. The biggest flaw was what particular character(s) were able to get away with; made it really hard to take the story seriously

Danny is only five years old, but in the words of old Mr Hallorann he is a 'shiner', aglow with psychic voltage. When his father becomes caretaker of the Overlook Hotel, Danny's visions grow out of control. As winter closes in and blizzards cut them off, the hotel seems to develop a life of its own. It is meant to be empty. So who is the lady in Room 217, and who are the masked guests going up and down in the elevator? And why do the hedges shaped like animals seem so alive?

The first half is a slow burn, where King fleshes out the characters of the Torrance family. At roughly the halfway point, the pace picks up, while the sanity of the Torrance’s drops down

The narrator isn't amazing, but he's fine and not off-putting at all. The voices he does for the characters are good enough to help distinguish who's talking, but heard out of context they wouldn't pass as what they're supposed to be
