Ragle Gumm has a unique job: Every day he wins a newspaper contest. And when he isn’t consulting his charts and tables, he enjoys his life in a small town, in 1959. At least, that’s what he thinks. But then strange things start happening. He finds a phone book where all the numbers have been disconnected, and a magazine article about a famous starlet named Marilyn Monroe, whom he’s never heard of. Plus, everyday objects are beginning to disappear and are replaced by strips of paper with words written on them, like "bowl of flowers" and "soft-drink stand".

Fantastic story! Well performed, albeit it the first few chapters seemed to drag on a little bit, but in the end I found it made for great scene setting and plot building.

Well worth the purchase! :)

By far one of the best audiobooks I have ever listened to!

An amazingly well written book with fantastically constructed character personas.

I’d be lying if I said that at times this book hadn’t pulled extremely hard on my heart strings - such a lovely story.

Fantastic storyline. Amazing to hear such a well known story from another point of view; slots very well into canon.

Only issue is with the child voice actors - most of the time it was very apparent that they were reading directly from scripts, and their general emotion & inflections in dialogue showed this.

That being said, I highly recommend this audiobook.

As a child, Chris Hooper dreamed of monsters. But in deep space, he found only darkness and isolation. Then, on planet LV178, he and his fellow miners discovered a storm-scoured, sand-blasted hell - and trimonite, the hardest material known to man. When a shuttle crashes into the mining ship Marion, the miners learn that there was more than trimonite deep in the caverns. There was evil, hibernating and waiting for suitable prey.

Great story. Well performed!

Even a subtle nod by Rutger Hauer to Blade Runner toward the end — fantastic!

Ray Porter does an amazing job. Likewise the story itself is great! If you love sci-fi, especially sci-fi with a large scope, then this is for you.

Probably the best Audiobook I’ve listened to.
