I really enjoyed reading this book and was pleasantly surprised to discover there are more in the series. This particular book works as a standalone and a great introduction to the series. The book itself looks at humanity far removed from today yet so familiar. Through the eyes of characters (both human and alien) to answer some of life's hardest questions. I read this book at a transitional stage in my life. Struggling with identity and moving away from a job that I hated (but paid well) to a job that I love (but doesn't pay as well). This book helped me to tackle many of the questions and issues I ask myself daily.

Enjoyed the narrative and style of this book

Saw this series trending on audible. As a fan of scifi I thought it would be a good opportunity to check it out. The story has a very refreshing twist on the space / intergalactic warfare. As humans we're used to being the predator. We're top of the food chain. But in a vast universe that's probably not going to be the case. This book explores this theme.

Good, but at great as some make you believe

The emperor really didn't have much to do with the development of the story. By the end I realised all she did was provide information about how the world's worked
