Having listened to the series to date I was admittedly a little cautious about this latest title. After all it could be just more of the same. But I was pleasantly surprised by Heavens River. While there were a number of same old elements these were outweighed by the range of new ideas and concepts that at the end left you again keen for the next in the series.

Could not stop listening to this book. The story is a gem. Reminiscent of the golden era of SciFi in creating a believable unique "some where in the galaxy" environment and culture. A key point of enjoyment was the stories refreshing military life and organisation. Not the usual (unimaginative and boring) US Forces style of military organisation. Combat descriptions were realistic and exciting, loss of team mates was realistically devastating, life changing events were different and often unexpected. The main character’s growth was believable, intriguing and, importantly, it all hung together. Listening I was transported to their world seeing and feeling it all. Not many books can do that. What a great story. I look forward to trying the next book in the story line. If you love the classic SciFi authors such as Niven, Clarke or Harrison you’ll enjoy this book immensely.

Initial storyline was interesting and flowed well. I was able to ignore most of the out of period phrases for the first scenario but it soon became repetitive. Again and again the same impossible situation leading to the same predictable outcome. R C Bray, as always, was good but this was a bit too close to the Paradise expeditionary force series. Once I connected his cyborg voice to Skippy I was done with this book. Not recommended.

I liked the movie. In particular I found how this sub-story avoided the childish elements of other Star Wars movies and even had a tragic ending. I saw this audiobook and thought it might fill in a few gaps in the story. Wow was I happily surprised. Listening to the excellent performances of this audio book was captivating. Suddenly the Rouge One story was more than interesting. It was emotional it was intriguing it was exciting it was tragic it had real heros. This audiobook elevates and enhances the quality of the Rogue One story to amazing level. If you liked the movie but felt it could have been better or there was more to the Rogue One story then you will really enjoy this excellent audio book as it expands and enhances the Rogue One story to legendary status.

While I enjoyed the first book in the series, I agreed with some other reviewer comment on long sections of detail but I love techie stuff so had no problem enjoying the detail when it was technical. However this second in the Fear Saga series was just awesome. So good I found I couldn't leave the car until I had at least heard the end of some of the scenarios (who cares if I'm late for work :)). The story picks up well from the first and is quickly matching pace with the first but then just keeps getting better and better with new twists and turns with the narrator doing a great job of inflecting the reading with initial underlying tension that builds until a spectacular conclusion and then the next one ..... Loved it. An unusually exceptional Part 2 in a great series. Gathers pace early then its just a rush to the end that comes all too fast.

Having read the book several times over the years I was surprised how much I enjoyed the story as an audio book. The written story was getting dated but as an audio book it was fresh and invigorating. Recommended to anyone who enjoyed the book and would appreciate a refresh of the excitement from reading the book for the first time.
