Good book, bit same same with the events that happened throughout for some reason it didn't feel like there was a peak it was all relatively high stakes which made non of the stakes high. Great performance by Nick Podehl and attempt for character development but the story didn't seem to allow for much of it as it was either from the main character or just surface development

Story
1870. A time known as The Great Killing. The vampire clans arose and slaughtered humanity with unprecedented carnage in the northern parts of the world. Millions perished; millions were turned into herd animals. The great industrialized civilizations of the world were left in ruin. A remnant fled south to the safety of the ever present heat which was intolerable to vampires. There, blending with the local peoples, they rebuilt their societies founded on human ingenuity, steam and iron.

Predictable, unoriginal

Pretty disappointing The characters had nothing in them, they were generic teenage fantasy blandness with no substance or really motive to their actions. The storyline was also same same. Elements such as chemical warfare and airships should've been explored more and with greater detail to what they actually are because it made it very confusing Feels like it was a high-school story submission. Not even James Marsters who beautifully performed the Dresden Files couldn't do anything with the characters or the story to make it interesting

A Charmed/Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Detective mix

Witty and banterful, with adult content that doesn't smother it. After listening to so many books with jumping storylines and multiple characters this is a lot slower and linear as you follow the one character the whole time. James Marsters is amazing but the recording captures too much and you have to play it soft enough so the swollowing and facial sounds don't drive you insane. Worth checking out another of both author and narrator

Interesting enough story to prevent me from not finishing it but not his best. Characters lacked depth and the storyline was fairly obvious. Good performance by Ben Elliot but in comparison to Abercrombie's other work with Steven Pacey as the narrator it doesn't even come close

Brandon Sanderson's books are amazing, beautifully written and so easy to get swept away listening to it for hours at a time. Kramer and Reading are a powerhouse couple and I would definitely listen to more of their works because of their engaging characterisations. I've also listened to the Mistborn series and they are just as good if not easier to follow
