This was one of the first books to go on to my wish list when I started my audible membership. Some 3 years later I finally made the purchase. The author has a exceptional grasp on history, not just the broad strokes but the nuances. She has clearly done much research. Not just saying that from the contents of this book but all her novels have a real feet into her ground feel to historical periods.
The narration is exceptional. I’m tempted to say voice acting here. He has a diverse range and gave the narration heart. The American accent was not very diverse but I found myself backtracking to reposted to the emotion he put in to some internal dialogue. 5 stars all round.

Sequel trilogy?

Having read the previous three Bobiverse novels this was the first time I’ve listened to an audiobook in the series. And I loved it. At one point I looked at the screen to see 9 hours to go. The next time I looked it said 3 hours to go. Where did those 6 hours go? I was so enthralled they disappeared. I wish that would happen to the rest of 2020.
The narrator has great skills with portraying characters and puts a natural emphasis into random places in the narration that I’ve not heard other narrators do as well yet. He really made this book great.
The story was good with some good laughs. There’s a perfectly executed burn at one point I really enjoyed that for me it showed how good the writer can be. Hope to listen to more of Teresa and the Bobiverse and I’m sure I will!

Excellent writing and delivery!

What a fun book. I may have enjoyed this book more than any other audio book experience I’ve had. I consumed the novel over three days. I couldn’t wait to finish work so I could listen to more of this 10/10 Aliens story.

And the narrator, Fontana, is no singer.

The story was good. I enjoyed it and hope there will be more stories written about Panem. I hope much of the songs being sung in this novel do not make their way to the upcoming movie.

I do find the way a number of narrators portray female characters voices to be condescending and cliche. Using inflections like they are actors in a bitchy sitcom rather than unique individuals that speak with a natural tone equivalent to their motivations and the scenarios they are in. Fontana is guilty of this.

Please.... make it stop

This book will not end!!
The constant diversions from something that should have been straightforward makes me think Hamilton was aiming for the longest possible page count he could manage.
It took me at least 4 hours to get interested. It took months to complete and I am now 2-3 audio books behind. By the time there was 7 hours left I just desperately wanted it to be over with but still diversions come at you hard and fast. I continued out of sheer stubbornness because by that time I had already invested so much time to the book.
Hamilton at his most painful and never ending best.

It took me almost two months and 7+ hours of arduous attempts at listening to this audio novel before it hooked me. This is in no small part to the narration. It’s the first book I’ve listened to by the narrator, he is slightly monotone. One of my biggest gripes is the way one scene will merge into another without the slightest hint of a pause leading you to spend the next few minutes figuring out ‘oh we’ve moved on and talking about something different now have we?’ This combined with the vast amount of characters and locations can make it difficult to follow but not impossible.
It is testimony to the book though that it showed enough promise for me to keep at it. I am enjoying the book.
I will listen to the next novel for sure.

I hope audible takes note of reviews like this and gets their editing/directing to a level where it isn’t an issue. I point the finger at those aspects more than the narrator himself.
