Jessica has thought marriage not for her as shes a working girl, not a pro, but GASP A DESIGNER.
NOOOOOOO
anyway simon needs coin to fix his estate.
you know what is coming.
the usual rich people crying poor to their servants.
Anyway this book could have been cut down in half and made no difference to the story.
ms Landor does her best, but even I felt that she had gotten a bit bored, I sure did.

very long descriptions of everything.
the breathy voice of the narrator is a bit much but I'm Australian so probably shouldn't be terribly picky about accents.

this character is supposed to be a twenty year old woman, but she acts like a five year old throwing a tantrum.
truly irritating.
I finished the story, Ruby learns nothing and for some reason I have no idea of, nyle eventually loves her.
this couple are welcome to each other.
maybe at 35 I'm just too old for these nitwits.
as per usual it seems a 10 year age gap, a dude who's had a tonne of chicks and an innocent idiot.
the dialogue is ridiculous.

Welcome to Megan Bryce's Regencyland, where ladies with backbone get what they want. spoiler alert probably.
be warned.
right, so Amelia who is fiesty and called the dragon, was once the subject of gossip due to a scandal she wasn't part of.
as usual for these types of books, feisty just seems to mean a bit rude and snarky.
Amelia's got a large dowry so shes alright.
Jameson is a dandy. he doesn't want a wife and so gets kicked in the nads by his betrothed as he cancels wedding one day before.
the exfiance, Clarice, becomes Amelia's bff as she tries to help her after Jameson's refusal.
pros:
Clarice and robin the supporting characters are nicer than the main ones. trust me, you'll be cheering them on.
cons
I honestly don't see what these people see in each other. he's a fashion forward arse and shes a pain in one.
the lack of caring about the lower classes or the mention of them is annoying.
the narrators posh voice is grating until chapter three, but gets into stride. I wouldn't expect much from her man voices.

if youre looking for suspense or a plot twist. look away.
if you want a sex scene of any sort or diverse characters, they aren't here.
what is in here is a sweet, gentle love story of a poor widow who goes back to college (and a job there) and falls for her cranky boss.
these characters are actually adult in that they have conversations and have back stories.
I loved it.

why does "strong' in romance novels seem to mean rude and with no idea about life.
as far as virgin brides go, this one is less annoying than usual.
that isnt saying much.
if you like brides who are naive and oh so daring because they once thought of looking in the door of a gaming club then Penelope is your chick.
if you grew up more like Mr black then Penelope then she will irritate you as much as she did me.
I liked Clara the head of the whores. she would have 100 times more interesting tale than this.

gets there, just takes a long time doing so.
could have cut out a whole heap of the story and gotten to the same point.
the shy virgin dukes daughter and rough son of a whore who cannot speak their love to each other.
I spent a lot of the book wondering why the hero of the story niall falls for Diana. he seems to be incredibly tough on everyone else and Diana too initially (holding her to the same standards as everyone else) but then suddenly everything she does is magic and brave and tough.

loved it. several stories in one that combine to tell a great story.
wee William is not a polished man, although he hides an extensive education and is kind, gruff and wise. ..mostly.
Nora has been married to a tool and meets wee William after he comes to collect something off her husband by force. seeing Nora beaten and bound, wee William instantly defends her and rescues her, her siblings and decides to take her back to his clan. I mean not that he cares about her. obviously, because he so totally doesnt, won't everyone leave him alone he doesn't love Nora, women are trouble and he's keeping the beard. yep. doesn't love her. not interested in her.
....until Nora asks the laird to find her a husband.
now he's got to choose if he will let her go.
usually in these books you get tons of posh gits qne every serving maid is secretly a duchess who has a grand fortune. well not here. William and Nora are just your average folks which made this endearing and relatable.
I found myself smiling at Williams antics and Nora's trying to keep him in line.
The other storylines that appear later are much briefer but still lovely.

this an epic tale that seriously could have been chopped in a third and you wouldn't have missed anything.
the narrator is getting better at female voices thank goodness. still whiny but, y'know, better.
sex scenes are brief and the usual.
okay so Catherine loves Ralph even though everything he says he contradicts
spoiler alert.
Says no one will hurt her, his dad locks her in a cell. she forgives that and her constant oh well life is great is annoying as hell. I could not relate. this chick is trained as a warrior and yet crumples into a ninny whenever the main dude is near.
listen, I can't write a book so I hate to dies any authors efforts, but this book takes foreeeeeeeeeever.
some random segues into other clans that are more interesting than the main story.
