Brooks is a superb storyteller. Makes the tunes and characters so compelling... it’s a really worthwhile book. Highly recommended.

Really? This got rave reviews?

I liked Gilbert's novel: The Signature of All Things, very much. Was excited to listen to this. Drawn in in the beginning; getting annoyed at bad writing a little past the beginning; irritated by the lack of editing and predictability — same use of sentence construction; loads of 'telling' and explaining and clichéd characterisations... and gave up. Not recommended.

I’d just finished listening to Normal People... it’s v good... so was keen to read/hear more of her. This had such similar tropes, and concerns... fine- author prerogative of course. But somehow in the listening, I could discern elements and description that came up again and again... so much do, I could finish lines. Sigh. Still... I did get attached to a couple of the characters... damning with faint praise, I know.
