I Couldn't return this to audible fast enough

I bought this book without researching who the author was & that she is only 20 year old & sounds it. At 52 myself there is nothing to learn from her here. The author comes across as particularly angry. I was born red hair & white pale skin to a misogynist & racist man with a brute of a wife who both beat me for no reason but 'put some lipstick on'. I don't have time or energy to join this team, I have enough to get on with myself.

The sound quality is very poor on this recording. Constantly requiring adjustment to the volume to hear the whispering static narrator who is not the original Louisa! That is frustrating that she sounds nothing like Louisa in Me Before You. I'm not wasting 11 hours straining to hear Louisa continue to tread water in her life so have returned to Audible.

Misleading Publisher Review & Suicide Content

Going on the Publishers Review I didn't have high expectations of this book & really no clear idea of what was to unfold. I quite enjoyed the performances, the story & even the long length. Lou was for the most part likeable but regularly really stupid for the year 2007. Unaware that disable parking exists!! Her father's recognisable emotional abuse is painful to hear. However a mention before purchasing & listening for quite a lot of hours before broaching the subject of assisted suicide & the impact of that on listeners should be made available. No shortcuts were taken & the story does flow easily. Overall still a good listen.

I am rather partial to historical fiction & I loved this book from start to finish, actually I didn't want it to finish at all. The interaction between the ladies was what we all hope for in relationships with women. I was interested to learn of the Packhorse Library Julia Whelan is sooo easy to listen to. 5 Star listening. So descriptive & easy to form imagination of the time, people & events.

I was considering returning this after a couple of hours & wouldn't have missed anything if I had. I spend life avoiding characters like Alix & disappointed to listen to anything like her character traits. A grown woman with a family still banging on about her high school boyfriend?!? Seriously. The child voice used was really, really annoying. Being Australian the story & racism storyline did not resonate at all with me.

The first 3 to 4 hours were trying & I almost gave up. Thank goodness for the binding closet & things finally became interesting. Even though I have no interest or understanding of botany or even gardening, the story & history were easy to follow. The narrator did a great job painting a picture of events, personalities, travels & landscapes. I learned from this book but don't ask me to explain anything!?!

The narrator ruins any chance of getting into this book. Very dull and the accents used were off putting. The main character's accent very insipid. She painted no picture of what could be a good book. Make up, fabrics and fashion, jewellery, decor....1920s 30s glamour. All lost in a drab delivery akin to reading the phone book. 6 hours in I want to return this book as I had from the beginning. This story is just not believable. The characters were wishy-washy. After listening to the fabulous City of Girls this book was very disappointing. And returned to Audible.

I couldn't put this one down!! I listened at every moment possible & boy!! am I glad I never had kids & had to deal with the school parent politics...oi!! Loved the narrator & accents. Thought provoking - definitely. People sure could be nicer to each other if this is what people are going through.

The narrator took me in from the get go. Absolutely fantastic with her accents & tone. I wanted escapism & this book gives so much more. Reflection & analysis of our lives. The impact of parents effort or lack of it for daughters' futures. Our interaction with the people we cross paths with & the friends who come at all stages & ages... the way we continue to evolve through the decades.
Unmissable. I was captivated, addicted & did not want this book to end.
