I couldn't listen to this, the "subtle" sound clips in the background are annoying, they completely ruined this.

The story itself would be great however the anti abortion and bible stuff is to much... its just so sad to think that people believe this dribble.

for the first 9 hours i thought his name was Carolin, and it did kind of ruin the book for me, but upon realizing my mistake, i took back my previous judgement..... still, an annoying name throughout the book but a great storyline.

I tries, I gave it a few good hours but in the end, I had to close my eyes and think of another book. I instantly forgot who any of the characters were, aswell as most of the plot. I couldn't recommend it however I can't its bad, possibly just not my style of book.

This book is a mammoth! 29hours of pure delight and excitement. I will be the first to admit, the first jump of perspective from Jim catching a monster fish to Louisa catching plague as a little girl made me think I may of switched books by accident, however I endured her grizzly story and after the next few chapters, it all makes sense. having only just finished the audiobook no more than 2 days ago, im left longing for it and will be listening again and again and again.

While innocently starting with the assumption that you will be attending a world class chess tournament (in which you do) you quickly find yourself in a world of deciet, sex, murder, lust and the darkest parts of religious manipulation around. Horrible dark secrets lurk around every corner and no one can be trusted.... theres also a few games of chess in there somewhere.

Intriguing yet easily forgotten.

I found this hard to get immersed in, let me say, this IS a great story.... however.... discriptions of events seemed chunky and lacking, the use of "Microlight LED" to describe a flashlight or torch seemed to jerk me out of the story at rather pivotal moments, other items like a laptop or phone were mentioned in similar ways like a bright advertising banner that never seemed natural. I felt disconnected with the main characters and even when facing a gun pointed directly at them, held hostage with no way out, i felt nothing for them. All in all, great story to tell, but with the way its told, will be forgotten within a couple of days for me.
