When will publishers learn that consistent narration for series is critical for audiobooks! I has adjusted by the end, but three novels with the same characters and narration and then a totally different performance is jarring and unpleasant. The drive and pacing of the story was no where near the All Souls books. Kind of more like a country stroll of a book. Again jarring after the first three books were so well done. The premise and characters were excellent, so fingers crossed the next book is better. A perfectly pleasant read.

This book is a case study in why it’s so important to keep the same narrator for a series. Most notably, the first book, The Rook, specifically states that Myfanwy is an English woman in her early thirties & that she says her name without the ‘w’, so it rhymes with Tiffany. Unfortunately the narrator of this book was completely unaware of this description & therefore her creative choice to make the character fully Welch is extremely jarring and makes an unpleasant listening experience.
