though the book had its fair share of reminders/ memories, flash backs one to many times here and there i understood the need for it. the hidden hints and messages lay in them. yes there was so much on caves and far less on aylas storyline it took a bit away from the main plot but also left one questioning one's own interpretation of the cave paintings. personally I believe or thought the ancients must been actually clan or more specific mogurs as they were even more powerful in the spirit world which we see with aylas inabilities to control any of it.
the ending hmm as was written left story unfinished ayla is only 26 what about her 2 sons nothing is revealed there except mamut saying it isn't what it seems. the story has always been about ayla so why was jondolars point of view the ending, that would of been fitting if she had died which as sad as it sounds would of been a better closure and with wolf's howl more fitting. we could of then seen a proper zealandoni burial but how it ends makes the story scream for more for closure for more of her life.
Maybe jean wanted to leave that a mystery as we already know what the first is thinking how will it change life with the gift of knowledge. I feel the best part of the book really was the second half of the book.
yet will say the music slowly coming in at the end sent chills throughout my body and left me entranced and basically felt like I was also in the firsts tent thinking aswell.
Definitely worth listening to but a very patient and dedicated understanding and listening is required to enjoy it which I did
But so much story still to tell a wonderful beautiful mysterious captivating story left unfinished which i will always be left wondering how her life ends.

Clan of the Cave Bear is the first novel in Jean M. Auel's magnificent best-selling epic of life 35,000 years ago. Leave the 21st century and go back to Ice Age Europe. Follow Ayla, a Cro-Magnon child who loses her parents in an earthquake and is adopted by a tribe of Neanderthal, the Clan. See how the Clan's wary suspicion is gradually transformed into acceptance of this girl, so different from them, under the guidance of its medicine woman, Iza, and its wise holy man, Creb. Immerse yourself in a world dictated by the demands of survival in a hostile environment, and be swept away in an epic tale of love, identity and struggle.

remember reading this book when first published while commuting to work in my younger days. 30 odd years later enjoyed it again listening on audible. Jean M Auel has the magical power of her writing to transport you back to the ice age and relive what our ancestors lived. The hardship the joy sorrow struggles and never-ending battle to survive. A book and series i love.

Story
Dante and Blays have a single hope of victory: the Spear of Stars, the long-lost weapon that may be capable of killing the lich. There's just one problem. Though they've learned the spear is real, they've also learned the nine parts of the weapon are guarded by the gods themselves. And they have no intention of handing over their prize. Alone in a strange realm, with no friends or allies, and a growing list of enemies, Dante and Blays' task looks doomed. Yet, they're the last line standing between the lich and the destruction of their whole world.

this book has you wanting to jump ahead of the narrator because the big finish is edging closer and closer and closer but every little hesitation is what builds this excitement this tension to want you to get there. brilliantly written and for those whom haven't read this book yet won't add a spoiler but i found the end very very satisfying.
This book has the brilliance in its ending that wants you having more of Dante blays and co because to mention their names would only spoil it for those yet to read this book but at the same time satisfied where it has ended.
10/10 for me anyways loved it loved the series well done to an epic story.
Wonder if they could turn it into a TV series like game of thrones on a big budget without drifting or cutting out parts of the story.

Story
After a year of fighting across three different lands, Dante and Blays have finally brought Gladdic to justice - and in the process, they've unleashed a horror beyond all reckoning. The enemy is known as the White Lich. He is ancient. He is immensely powerful. And Gladdic believes he will soon enslave all of Tanar Atain. Their only chance to defeat him is to strike fast, before the lich has regained his power. But attacking him directly would be suicide.

though it's still a great storyline it felt a little stagnant until the end where it picked up again. Don't think it was as good as the last book but still looking forward to where the story leads next.

Story
Dante and Blays have forced Gladdic from the Collen Basin. But the victory might be only the first battle in a much larger war. With the land on the brink of starvation and politically fractured, Dante and Blays scramble to secure Collen's food, borders, and allies. Before their work is done, rumor arrives from Mallon. The enemy is mustering for another attack. Even if Collen can weather the coming storm, there's no guarantee their independence will last out the year.

the story just gets better and better as a series and this book is just fantastic. The evolution of the world and all the contributing societies gel so well to unravel a definite brilliant ending to the series, but somewhat predictable.
