Firstly Tim Gerard Reynolds had a great performance, can't fault him a bit during his reading. He brought life to the characters and story. Now for the rest, while I did enjoy this Trilogy it left a lot to be desired, cringey at times and even boring at others. The plot and themes were great but the execution fell a littlw flat. The MC's costant self loathing and questionable decisions had me rolling my eyes at points. HOWEVER. if some were to ask me if they should read/listen to this I would have to say yes, while parts aren't my favourite the package as a whole is well worth the ride imo.

HOLY SHIT!

I'm loving this series and I recommend it to any who are uncertain on whether to continue it after Red Rising. The Performance is great and the writing keeps you guessing until the very end. oh and for anyone who is looking through reviews after finishing it. You'll get my meaning by HOLY SHIT!

While it does have it's slow moments the character building is strong with many likable side characters. The story with the MC's father dragged on a little too long for my taste, but was handled well regardless. Looking for to book 2. Overall a strong book that I would have no problem recommending.

The last 1/3 of the book was great and I very much enjoyed what the author came up with. However that does not mean that I enjoyed the entire book, the first 2/3's are honestly a chore. It is mainly devoted to exposition, magic theory and recap of magic theory. Now that is not exactly a bad thing but it does bog the story down quite a bit with very meaty sections of dialogue that goes nowhere. I also was not overly thrilled that the author chose to infuse gender politics into the story. While I personnally have no issue with adding such characters into books, and I actually found this particular one to be one of the most entertaining, That does not mean that I'm okay with devoting such a large section of a chapter to explaining the concept of gender politics in a book about magic, gods and monsters....I would have much rather they just carry on like it wasn't an issue ( maybe with a brief description) and continue on with the plot, instead of slamming the breaks to break down the culture of gender politics in the region. It was rather jarring to be frank. On a lighter note the last 1/3 was very good and made it worth while. Nick Podehl was amazing as always and I forever look forward to listening to more of his work.

There is nothing particularly wrong with "Jack of Thieves" I believe some people would rather enjoy it. Personnally I found it kinda bland and lacking in personality, Jack himself is pretty by the numbers and isn't a very interesting character. The writing is quite simplistic and the plots pretty basic. But if your just looking for a time killer then you'll enjoy it. If however your looking for something with a bit more flair I wouldn't recomened it. The narrator isn't the best I've heard, but he does a decent job. In conclusion: a good journey, not a great one.

adds even more to the game.
