I’ve read and enjoyed every other book by Adrian McKinty. I think it was only disbelief that made me finish this.

I agree with the other reviews (which I had not read before listening to this book). While the performance is good, I did not enjoy the story, for the same reasons as the other reviewers. And I, too, had enjoyed Tana French’s other books.

The characters are wooden. Their situations and responses to them are often jaw droppingly incredible, and not in an entertaining way. The story’s tone is sometimes preachy...oh, and if a character is fat, he/ she will be stupid, or heartless, or incompetent, or otherwise significantly flawed.

From the twee Aboriginal storyline to the performer’s inability to pronounce common Aboriginal place names, this book is just cringe worthy.

I cannot recommend this book. The story is not only dated, the characters are also irritating. However, the narration is worse than any of this.

I listened to the whole book, assuming that at some stage the story would become engaging. It didn’t.

I’ve listened to the Slow Horses series, and really enjoyed them. This book is nothing like them. I found all of the characters irritating and implausible. None of them engaged me.

The story is improbable and irritating. So improbable that, at one stage, I thought it might have been a spoof. Sadly, not. If I could give this no stars, I would have.
