I first read Dry when it came out and now years later reading it as a newly sober member of the fellowship I have really lived through a lot of what I’d missed the first time around. AB’s narration is very much a part of its charm and the amazing part is how closely I could relate to a young, gay newyork ad-exec because of our shared affliction.

Marian Keyes took me on a ride where I was thrust into Ireland and all its beauty, intertwined with the Casey’s and Kinsella families and all their exquisite dramas. After each chapter I was inspired to live out the experiences she shared and have frequently eaten out at some adventurous restaurants while being locked in the land of ‘Grown ups’. My own secrets were shared with some of the characters in this ‘shining little gem’, and conversations with my dearest girlfriends have been enriched by the shared joy we have found in this story. At times I found myself sobbing as I listened to Marian tell me a heart-wrenching truth while roaring down the freeway on my way home from work. And other moments I drove straight past my destination waiting for the chapter to end so I could then re-commence my life. Thank you! Next!

What a good way to spend those nights when I couldn’t quite get to sleep in my first days of quitting. Lovely voice for narration and so much to relate to. A hopeful story that leads you into a positive experience.
