This was a lot more engaging than I expected it to be. Thought I would listen to a few chapters then move on, but I stuck out the whole 18 hours because the professor/narrator tells it in such an engaging and entertaining way (though I did skip a chapter or 2 in the middle which were bogged down in a little too much detail for me). Genuinely one of the best presenters of a course I've ever listened to. An excellent intro to some historical linguistic concepts.

Fantastic to hear this read from Mr Fry himself

Excellent lectures and learnt a lot about myself and other people and what makes them/me tick. Never boring at all - was always very engaged.
My only criticism is that there were no lectures about how to change/improve personality traits, it was purely about what is (though I guess that may be another topic...)

If you could sum up The Holocaust in three words, what would they be?

Very well researched and eloquently told, this is fantastic account of the atrocities of the Holocaust and how it came to be. Was absolutely galling to listen to at times, but that's the point of educating yourself about this ghastly crime against humanity. Particularly engaging for a newbie to this historical event.

Perhaps a little too beautiful

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Beautifully written and very insightful - some fantastic observations of a young person's first infatuation. However it was a little too obsessive for me - the main character is quite pathetic at times and I found myself wanting the story to go somewhere, anywhere, other than detailed descriptions of an infatuated teenager. Haven't seen the movie yet, but I suspect this book translates very well as a movie because it is very much a 'mood piece' and conjures some great imagery of Italian life.
