i thought I knew this book, but listening to it gave me a whole new perspective. I was surprised by the level of violence - not bloodthirsty violence so much as domestic abuse. It is a remarkable story that rewards listening. In no way has the strength of the tale dimmed in the many years since it was first published. Highly recommended

while I enjoyed the story the plot lines and their intersections overwhelmed the work at times. but my biggest gripe was the narrators frequent mispronunciation of simple words. his voice was good-flat and dry, but i winced at those weird pronunciations.

I've read the book, seen the movie, studied the book in fact, but this reading brought the story a new depth. I couldn't stop listening. Thandie Newton is truly captivating as narrator. I wish she had done more like this. Strongly recommended.
