Story
The Archangel of Death and the Archangel of Disease may be gone but their legacy of evil lives on - especially in Africa, where the shambling, rotting creatures called the reborn have gained a glimmer of vicious intelligence. It is up to Titus, archangel of this vast continent, to stop the reborn from spreading across the world. Titus can't do it alone, but of the surviving powerful angels and archangels, large numbers are wounded, while the rest are fighting a surge of murderous vampires. There is no one left...but the Hummingbird. Old, powerful, her mind long a broken kaleidoscope.

I have enjoyed this addition to the Carpathian series. Christine Feehan appears to have returned to her original formula of a great novel with a suspenseful storyline magic, romance and a little steamy sex to round it out. I have been rather disappointed with a few of her last books as the emphasis has been on the very repetitive sex scenes with a little bit of story to pad them out. They made for a tedious read, which was a shame as I really love Christine Feehan's characters and various series.

Story
When soap opera star Abby Langford leaves Los Angeles for her Minnesota hometown, she’s hoping to give her nine-year-old daughter the peaceful childhood she never knew. But instead of tranquility, Abby finds an old knife hidden between the walls of her new Victorian house. Then the nightmares start: a blood-soaked victim and a killer’s arm slicing through the air, again and again. Police Chief Josh Kincaid assumes Abby is just scheming to get back into the tabloid headlines. But she’s turning out to be nothing like the spoiled diva he imagined. Abby is warm, honest, sexy, and the target of very real death threats.

I've enjoyed the Torpedo Inc series, stories and characters and look forward to them all finding themselves and their mates. I have not enjoyed the addition of the increasing number and repetitive nature of the sex scenes. I don't mind a good sex scene within a story when it is a natural progression and part of the character and story development, but it seems that they are used as filler to pad out the story and they only detract from the narrative. Jim Frangione gives a great performance and is easy to listen to.

Joy Randall's Top-five tips for vampire hunters: Location, location, location. Vampires won't be caught dead (ha!) in places like discos, 10-minute lube shops, or Switzerland. Remember, if you wouldn't be there, neither would a bloodsucker. Trust your eyes. You know the handsome, annoyingly arrogant, self-assured man in the shadows with long hair and a cleft in his chin? He's your vampire. No matter how tempting it might be, do not "accidentally" acquire a paper cut on your finger and suggest your vampire kiss it to make it better....
