It is a rare author who can create a character as real, raw and authentic as Kya and bring to life her beloved marsh in such vivid detail.

A good story with a promising start. Unfortunately there is so much unessessary waffle about the characters emotional states that it was hard to stick with it at times. Not sure I'll go back for the second book

A unique story so lyrically written. It took a little while to get going but once I got into it I couldn't stop listening

Carey has a gift with telling a great story with twists and turns and just the right level of weird. Not quite as good as The Girl With All The Gifts but still a cracking tale.

I found this book disappointing. The annoying narrator aside, the story was really not up to the same standard as previous books by this author.

Going by the reviews I expected this to be a really good listen but I was quite dissapointed. The story was thin and predictable and the mind-numbing detail on every single weapon really didn't do it for me - yaawwwn

I couldn't finish this book as it was impossible to follow the plot due to the ridiculous tech jargon. Additionally, the story jumped around between different times and characters as well as individual characters having several different names which again made it impossible to comprehend. The premise is interesting but very poorly executed for the general readership.

An interesting premise with just enough strangeness to keep it going but some of the sub-stories dragged on far longer than necessary and some backplots got quite confusing
