What was so fabulous about this book was I was there. I could feel the heat as only an Australian in the bush can. I smelled the motel room and could picture it quite clearly. And again, at the end, I felt and smelled the rain. In every sense the author took us on a journey that perhaps, at times, was a little far fetched, but I couldn't let it go. I kept wanting to see what happened next. Really enjoyed it.

An excellent review of Ron Iddle's work. What a special man he is. One out of the box. Caring, clever and decent. Everything you want in a cop.

My only issue is the narrator's voice was very dead and the inflections were out of place. If someone with a more engaging voice had been used, it would have improved it immensely.

Loved it but difficult to listen to

If you could sum up Before the Fall in three words, what would they be?

Loved the storyline but really struggled with the narrator.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Before the Fall?

When JJ spoke with Scott for the first time after the accident.

What three words best describe Jeff Harding’s performance?

Unaffected. Frustrating. Difficult.

Any additional comments?

The story line was great, though a bit frustrated with the end. Would have liked a bit more closure. Apart from the narration, it was good.

What did you like most about The Widow?

Each character was very real and I just couldn't put it down. I found myself loving and disliking Jane at different times. An excellent first book and I can't wait for more from this author.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I found myself, and not usual for me, exclaiming out loud at certain points. I did become very emotional at times and again, not like me. That is a testament to both the author and Clare's excellent narration.

Any additional comments?

Having listened to a number of other books, I would encourage Fiona to have Clare read them as well. Her intimate understanding of your writing comes out in the way she reads.

A very unpleasant subject but handled very well without going into the lucid details. Excellent.
