Diana Gabaldon writes enthrallingly. The story and the characters spring out of the pages vividly. It is a pity that Ms Gabaldon finds it necessary to include dozens of explicit and voyeuristic sex scenes. While some people may revel in such descriptions, they do nothing to enhance the overall storyline and rather spoiled the total enjoyment of the book.

As a Tasmanian born in the 40s I have never known the Regatta to exhibit farm animals and I don’t believe they sold show bags in the 80’s though it may have been so later , after I stopped going. Not a good start to a book to get facts wrong in the first chapters. The Show ( in October) and the Regatta (in February) were two quite distinct local events

As a Tasmanian I resented the implication that we are uneducated - all my family have degrees, masters and doctorates including a great uncle who was a Master at Cambridge.
That aside the story was frightening possible - why are we selling our country? It could happen if we don’t get the government to prevent foreign powers buying huge tracts of our country!
Better proof reading would have improved some grammatical errors.

I could not stop til I heard it all. I feel sure that if a single word were not true Mary would have been sued. Thank you for letting us see exactly how this monster emerged. I do hope, for the sake of the whole world, that he is ousted I. The next election.

What a relief to listen to a female comedian who is actually funny and not sex obsessed. Very enjoyable

What a pity she can’t get off the subject of sex and people’s bodies. She comes across as totally brainless

Having been to Antarctica, and crossed the Drake in a force 10, I was spellbound to hear of such Endurance. What an extraordinary tale, what an extraordinary man

Had I read this book myself I would not have continued. As I listened, however, I was drawn in and could not put it away until I heard the end.

An amazingly powerful book. Having been to Leningrad in 1990 for one short week, this book brings back to mind the whole uneasy feeling of the city at that time, and a desire to see it again in a newer, free atmosphere. Thank you Paullina for sharing this- I was in tears at times and I will return to revisit what is now. st Petersburg

Ann Cleeves write great stories but the narrator for this one was a real disappointment.
