So I wasn't sure about continuing with the Dark Tower series after The Gunslinger. It was slow, confusing and the narrator was horrible. But I decided to give the second book a couple chapters. I finished this book in a couple days. The pace is quicker, the action is better and the story instantly hooks. The narrator again was a little hard to get used to but that might just be my own preference. Definitely recommend anyone who isn't sure about continuing with the series to give this book a go before turning away. It will change your mind!

Story
Stephen King's epic fantasy series, The Dark Tower, is being made into a major movie starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey. Due in cinemas February 17, 2017 USA. In this first novel in his epic fantasy masterpiece, Stephen King introduces listeners to one of his most enigmatic heroes, Roland of Gilead, the Last Gunslinger. He is a haunting figure, a loner, on a spellbinding journey into good and evil, in a desolate world which frighteningly echoes our own.

A bit of a slog

This was a hard one to finish and a shame since it's the first book of the series. The narration was probably the worst part for me. Poorly delivered and just felt rushed. The story was also very convoluted and hard to follow. It wasn't until the last chapter that it got my attention. Will continue on with the series because I've been looking forward to the series for a while, but won't be listening to this one again.
