Defeated, crushed, and driven almost to extinction, the remnants of the human race is trapped on a planet that is constantly attacked by mysterious alien starfighters. Spensa, a teenage girl living among them, longs to be a pilot. When she discovers the wreckage of an ancient ship, she realizes this dream might be possible - assuming she can repair the ship, navigate flight school, and (perhaps most importantly) persuade the strange machine to help her. Because this ship, uniquely, appears to have a soul.

As the first waves of injured bystanders, guardsmen, and rioters arrived at hospitals, it became apparent that a deadly new disease had been unleashed on the population. Whether the virus was naturally occurring or an escaped lab experiment, Cade hadn't a clue and wasn't especially concerned until he learned of its unprecedented virulence, unusual method of transference, and the fact that, according to the news, it brought the newly dead back to life, semi-mindless, and with an insatiable desire to feed on the flesh of the living.

Not quite my favourite zombie story but if you are a gun & gore loving zombie freak you will enjoy it. I like that the characters aren’t idiots & they have some humanity. A perfectly good story if you are feeling zombie deprived but a bit lacking in depth for me :)

My name is Jemma Blackburn, and I have a secret. I know vampires are real. I watched one murder my father eight months ago, and even though they tried to convince me it didn't happen - that I'd lost touch with reality due to the trauma, I know what I saw was real. Hollow Hills is now the place I call home. It was supposed to be my chance at a normal life. My chance to bury my secret and start over.

The hero of this story is a self-involved, impatient, mannerless man who defines his masculinity by his ability to curtly boss a woman around. If he actually knew what he was doing his controlling behaviour would be more palatable but his bumbling & nonsensical attempts to navigate the apocalypse are tiresome & frustrating.

It starts as a whisper, barely audible. Rumors. Paranoia. Conspiracy theories. Subterfuge. Like lightning, the plague moves across the globe, leaving few alive. But the end is only the beginning. Primarily set in Memphis, four loosely-connected strangers, caught up in their lives, find their worlds annihilated by the swiftly-moving plague. Alex Connelly is a wealthy young executive. Kirk Foster is a self-absorbed aging gay man. Meredith Brinkley's ongoing war with breast cancer takes a turn for the worse. Logan King is a closeted baseball jock.

Hmmm. I listened to this out of curiosity as it has an LGBTQI flavour. The first 26 Chapters seem largely about the character’s self-involved lives plus a bit of queer awareness & fat shaming. This book had a lot of good ideas but could have badly done with a better Editor. There is a lot of repetition of facts.

The plot made no sense. These horny bumbling fools talk a lot about panties & intentionally destroy what could be their last chance to find a cure for a virus that has already been released. Also the hero gets a coffee for his lady love rather than telling her he is about to blow up her building. Lots of nonsense unfortunately

If you want to read about the zombie apocalypse from the perspective of two people who largely ignore that it is happening then this is the book for you! If you are dumb enough to think money will be of any value after the first few days of a zombie apocalypse.., if you have military training but would never bother to get a gun while it is clear that that the plague is spreading, then woo hoo go for it.

Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

A clever & interesting story, but the “hero mage” had values that left me nauseous. He was distressed by the sexual abuse of a young male apprentice but happily paid to have sex with two young teenage girls (who the hero believed were sold to him for the night by their innkeeper father). I prefer my feudal heroes to not choose to pay for sex with young teenagers sold to him by their fathers. Each to their own but for me it tainted the story to the point that I won’t be continuing to the second book.
