This is a great series of lectures. They take me a while to get through because I am forced to pause after listening to each lecture and listen to the music discussed. There is so much material that I am sure I will be coming back re-listening to parts and reflecting further on the nature of music. I Have just purchased Greenbergs "Bach and the high Baroque" and looking forward to spending long hours listening and reflecting on a period of music that I have long neglected.

Shostakovich is one of the great composers. The lectures put his works in perspective.
Controversy about the composers life has been contentious over the last years of the 20th century. Whether you agree with the lecturer or not this is an important work Well worth the listen .

The course covers most of the works and composers you would expect. I had an enjoyable time listening to the music before listening to the lecture. The lectures then gave new meaning to what i had listened to and provided important historical setting to the master work and the composer. At this price a must listen for all music lovers.

What a great read. As an older reader I found his story enabled me to reflect on the major news stories of our shared lifetime. It is a book that might give the younger reader a resource that will help them understand the present day troubles that have seen the rise of IS in the middle east , Brexit , the rise of Trump in the USA and the popularity of Hansonism in Australia.
