Story
From the Sunday Times top ten best-selling author of The Psychopath Test, a captivating and brilliant exploration of one of our world's most underappreciated forces: shame. "It's about the terror, isn't it?" "The terror of what?" I said. "The terror of being found out." For the past three years, Jon Ronson has travelled the world, meeting recipients of high-profile public shamings. The shamed are people like us - people who, say, made jokes on social media that came out badly or made mistakes at work.

Made me think

Someone makes a mistake online. The internet goes crazy. Is this the modern equivalent of the lynch mob? Found the examples fascinating, and yes, felt sorry for the people who made the mistake. I could have easily done the same. But not so much for the intentional liars, the fraudsters and those who are less innocent. Felt the book could have explored the line - the grey - because this internet shaming ain’t stopping any time soon. As much as we may like a judge and jury system that isn’t happening.

Story
For more than 10 years, a mysterious and violent predator committed 50 sexual assaults in Northern California before moving south, where he perpetrated 10 sadistic murders. Then he disappeared, eluding capture by multiple police forces and some of the best detectives in the area. Three decades later, Michelle McNamara, a true crime journalist who created the popular website True Crime Diary, was determined to find the violent psychopath she called the Golden State Killer. Michelle pored over police reports, interviewed victims, and embedded herself in the online communities that were as obsessed with the case as she was.

Using case studies from his own, and others’ experience, Adam clearly illustrates what he believes to be key aspects of good advertising. Easy to listen to and understand, I enjoyed the audiobook. Probably would have absorbed it better as a book, not audio, though.

... the further into this I progressed, the better I found it. Upon completion I wanted to listen again. The basic premise is well explained in the early chapters, but it was the deeper examples and research findings later in the book that I found most interesting. Written in a style that’s true to Adam’s brand the book was easy to digest and entertaining throughout.

Story
Exclusive to Audible! Listen to a discussion between the author and the narrator of The Widow at the end of this recording. We've all seen him: the man - the monster - staring from the front page of every newspaper, accused of a terrible crime. But what about her: the woman who grips his arm on the courtroom stairs - the wife who stands by him? Jean Taylor's life was blissfully ordinary. Nice house, nice husband. Glen was all she'd ever wanted: her Prince Charming.

Story
Random House presents the audiobook edition of Rising Strong, written and read by Brené Brown. The physics of vulnerability is simple: if we are brave enough often enough, we will fall. This is a book about what it takes to get back up and how owning our stories of disappointment, failure and heartbreak gives us the power to write a daring new ending. Struggle can be our greatest call to courage and Rising Strong our clearest path to deeper meaning, wisdom and hope.

Sandra’s life story is amazing. The situations she has endured would destroy most people. And the author has captured Sandra’s story in intricate detail. But it’s not an easy story. It’s not uplifting and it’s probably a bit too long as a narrative.
