Heartbreaking, joyous, traumatic, intimate and revelatory, Reckoning is the book where Magda Szubanski, one of Australia’s most beloved performers, tells her story. In this extraordinary memoir, Magda describes her journey of self-discovery from a suburban childhood, haunted by the demons of her father’s espionage activities in wartime Poland and by her secret awareness of her sexuality, to the complex dramas of adulthood and her need to find out the truth about herself and her family.

A very sensitive, laugh out loud, down to earth, and yet passionate tale of a woman just dealing with the toils of life without a how-to manual. We grew up just suburbs from each other , in the same era. I hung out in parallels circles. The book was an eye opening peak into an aspect of the war that i knew little about despite my own connections thru family too. A wonderful insight into the ordinariness and extraordinariness of relationships.
If there was one possible criticism, i think there were a few too many 'Ahrchh' 's (dad) in the story telling.

I will read it again

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

yes .. whilst driving but I got lost as it was a little hard for mr me to concentrate on - I would suggest he varies his speed and content to keep us with him

What was one of the most memorable moments of Essentialism?

the concept is the best

How could the performance have been better?

different narrator

Did Essentialism inspire you to do anything?

yes

Any additional comments?

Yes I love the concept but I felt like I was being TOLD to do something. the delivery was a little full on , or could it be the accent of the speaker/writer. He has great points and advice to make but it get a little complex or something , cant quite put my finger on it.'

On The Power of Vulnerability, Dr. Brown offers an invitation and a promise - that when we dare to drop the armor that protects us from feeling vulnerable, we open ourselves to the experiences that bring purpose and meaning to our lives. Here she dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and reveals that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage.

What made the experience of listening to The Power of Vulnerability the most enjoyable?

I'm new to Audible and I have to say i jsut LOVE it. This book was such a ground breaking listen to start with . I listen in the car. Now I cant wait to drive somewhere as it starts up automatically a on wifi and I don have to do much!Brene is such an inspiration!

What did you like best about this story?

Brene is such a no fuss no sugar coating , kinda' presenter. Her advice and wisdom is directly form experience and from the heart. There is something in there for everyone. and i didnt want it to end. she makes it all so real. You just feel so "normal" listening through her explanations, insight and research of what we all battle with , our shame. I am thrilled with my purchase

What does Brené Brown bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

he humor and vibrant personality just oozes out of the speakers. you feel like you are there! she is such an excellent story teller and her down to earth approach give me such confidence in myself.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Just how "ordinary and usual her experiences are. It could be any of us.

Any additional comments?

I want to do another.... lastly Brene gives you such practical tools to use in your everyday life to overcome shame and dive into your own authenticity.
