Story
Eleanor Oliphant has learned how to survive - but not how to live. Eleanor Oliphant leads a simple life. She wears the same clothes to work every day, eats the same meal deal for lunch every day and buys the same two bottles of vodka to drink every weekend. Eleanor Oliphant is happy. Nothing is missing from her carefully timetabled life. Except, sometimes, everything. One simple act of kindness is about to shatter the walls Eleanor has built around herself. Now she must learn how to navigate the world....

Where do I start? I loved this book so much. At the beginning of the book the main character lives a very boring, solitary life ruled by routine and isolation. Then she meets a succession of people who through their kindness unknowingly show her how to be in the world as she had mostly abusive relationships. Whilst the first half of the book had me laughing out loud like a fool at Eleanor's social commentary, the second half dealt with her past traumas so less chuckles were had but it didn't matter. I feel like I could write an essay on what this book is about but the short answer is social isolation/loneliness/kindness/community etc. This one will stay with me for a long time.

Story
We are in the midst of an obesity epidemic, but despite being inundated with diet advice we are only getting fatter. We count calories and exercise regularly, yet still the pounds won't budge. Why? In this highly enjoyable and provocative book, Dr Jason Fung sets out a groundbreaking new theory: that obesity is caused by our hormones, rather than a lack of self-control. He reveals that overproduction of insulin in the body is the root cause of obesity and obesity-related illnesses including type 2 diabetes

Very informative book for those looking for weight loss and lifestyle change though if you've read similar books you may find the level of detail excruciating. I found the narrator's accent slightly irritating though and he mispronounced some words but was otherwise entertaining.

I couldn't get through this audiobook, it was 99% waffling and self promotion with very little actual content. The narrator was excellent though.

Story
Inspired by a true story. In 1825, in a remote Irish valley lying between the mountains and Flesk River of Killarney, three women are brought together by strange and troubling events. Nora Leahy, a widow, has lost her daughter and her husband in the same year and is now burdened with the care of her grandson, Michael. The boy cannot walk or speak, and Nora has kept him hidden from neighbours, who might see in his deformity evidence of supernatural interference.

A story that shows the devastating consequences of ignorance in a 19th century Irish valley. The narrator was excellent, very entertaining.
