Story
As the old sailor's adage goes, a woman on board invites bad luck, a superstation that turned out to be true for the enemies of notorious pirates Anne Bonny and Mary Read. As quick to draw their cutlasses as they were to fall in love, Anne and Mary sailed the Caribbean leaving a trail of looted treasure, outfoxed law enforcement, and treacherous ex-lovers (suitably dealt with) in their wake. This series explores themes of equality, freedom, love and survival.

I didn’t expect to enjoy this as much as I did. But it was a fun, rollicking ride, that was ultimately feminist in flavour. What’s not to love?

A delightful and inspiring celebration of women

This series moved me to tears more than once. It made me think about the women in my life. I helped me to realise that in our society women don’t often openly celebrate their unique relationships with other women, and we should. I loved this series so much.

Story
A Short History of Nearly Everything is Bill Bryson's quest to understand everything that has happened from the Big Bang to the rise of civilization. He takes subjects that normally bore the pants off most of us, like geology, chemistry, and particle physics, and aims to render them comprehensible to people who have never thought they could be interested in science. In the company of some extraordinary scientists, Bill Bryson reveals the world in a way most of us have never seen it before.

Story
In her new audiobook, Invisible Women, award-winning campaigner and writer Caroline Criado Perez shows us how, in a world largely built for and by men, we are systematically ignoring half the population. She exposes the gender data gap - a gap in our knowledge that is at the root of perpetual, systemic discrimination against women and that has created a pervasive but invisible bias with a profound effect on women’s lives.

This wasn’t an easy read, but not because it wasn’t well written - it was. But the subject matter was loudly ringing true and disturbingly familiar to me. As a woman I live this reality every single day. As do all women. Narration was great too. I loved how this book celebrates women whilst challenging both the status quo and challenging men and society to do better and be better.

I really enjoyed this book. My one issue with it is that it wasn't long enough to really develop characters substantially. I felt like I only knew the narrator - everyone else felt a bit one dimensional. I loved exploring this topic. It certainly rang true for me in regards to what many women around the world have and are currently experiencing.
