This novel challenges our assumptions about relationships between the classes, doctors and patients, men and women, and men and men. It completes the author's exploration of the First World War, and is a timeless depiction of humanity in extremis. Winner of the 1995 Booker Prize.

The third and last book could be read in isolation but so much more rewarding as the final of the 3 books. The momentum is maintained and builds towards the end of the book. The quality of the writing as well as the story is also maintained across the trilogy. This book is very moving and Peter Firth’s performance does it justice.

It is 1918, and Prior is in London working as an intelligence officer. His concern is the enemy within though a clear definition of who exactly the enemy is proves harder to come by than he might have imagined.

Builds well on the first book in the series, more focused on Billy Prior. Can be read by itself but much more rewarding as part of the sequence. A good reading by Peter Firth who does a range of accents so well. Onwards to the last book!

Peter Firth excellent with the different voices and accents required. A wonderful book with interesting mix of facts and historical people with fiction.
A good book on its own but even better when seen as part of the whole Regeneration trilogy
