Story
Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Pretentious and boring.

I tried my best to get into Dune being a big sci-fi fan and hearing that Dune is one of the greatest sci-fi works of all time from so many people, but I just couldn't. It was a pretentious and boring story with bad voice performances. It is entirely possible that I may enjoy the book more as the performances were that inconsistent, but I doubt it. Unfortunately Dune just isn't for me.

Story
To the children, the town was their whole world. To the adults, knowing better, Derry, Maine, was just their hometown: familiar, well ordered for the most part. A good place to live. It was the children who saw - and felt - what made Derry so horribly different. In the storm drains, in the sewers, IT lurked, taking on the shape of every nightmare, each one's deepest dread. Sometimes IT reached up, seizing, tearing, killing....

Enjoyable performance, but meandering writing.

I am a fan of Stephen King so I was rather disappointed when I found that I just didn't enjoy IT. IT's barely scary and the writing is so meandering you can feel King simply trying to increase the word count. I was grateful for Steven Weber's enthusiastic performance, but I can't recommend this one due to the writing issues.

Thoughtful and thrilling.

Very entertaining follow up to King's first book in the Dark Tower series and Frank Muller's performance in reading this story was perfect (one of the best I've ever listened to). If you enjoyed the first book in this series I definitely recommend giving this one a go!

Story
Stephen King's epic fantasy series, The Dark Tower, is being made into a major movie starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey. Due in cinemas February 17, 2017 USA. In this first novel in his epic fantasy masterpiece, Stephen King introduces listeners to one of his most enigmatic heroes, Roland of Gilead, the Last Gunslinger. He is a haunting figure, a loner, on a spellbinding journey into good and evil, in a desolate world which frighteningly echoes our own.

The Gunslinger is brilliant.

The Gunslinger is a little slow to start but it's necessary as it builds its world. Once the story got going I felt engaged the entire time and could not stop listening. if you're a fan of King's work or fantasy in general, definitely make sure you check out The Gunslinger. Looking forward to listening to book 2 in King's 'The Dark Tower' series.
