A brilliant novel using history and politics to construct parallel stories of characters that provide a mirror reflecting modern day global leaders, countries and political events. A clever and skilful way of examining the emergence of dictatorships dressed up as democratic free economies.

This is an amazing story. I was privileged to read this book and the story of 2 people who survived evil against all the odds. I am reminded of how freedom of speech, respect for fellow human beings and the importance of maintaining our freedoms is so important. Thank you for this story.

There is confusion over the real intent of the story. Is it an introspective analysis of the main character - dark , depressive and melancholy- or is it about a murderer and tracking down the person - or both ? It changes from one to another and the story becomes lost in quite bizarre introspection by the character. I persevered with book but it was disappointing in its ability to decide what it was really about.
