This is the story of a man who has been told he is about to die. The devil appears wearing a Hawaiian shirt, and offers him an extra day to live at the price of removing something from the world. Day one, a world without chocolate... Gloriously narrated by Brian Nishii, who has become my No 1 male narrator...

Ripping good yarn!

if you are looking at this, you already have read the first book and loved it. I often struggle with sequels, but this fits so seamlessly to the first, it's as though it is one book split, for some reason, in two. Brian, Joy and Emily elevate this story by their flawless and sensitive narration. Again! my only issue is a need to wait until next year for the next installment. sigh...

I loved Polaris rising, as this one is also excellent. the problem?... it's too damn short. here's hoping the next installment is longer. Rachael reads this brilliantly too!

I've enjoyed the Mystic Bayou series, love the narrators, and they were good in this, but they struggled against the truly inferior story line. Undeveloped characters and a rushed story, not even the wonderful quirkiness of the town could dig this one out.

Written in the 1990s, this is lovely example of books written when authors actually had to be able to write, 'kickass heroine' was not a books main selling point and before sex needed to be spent in minute detail. Set in Scotland, a proposed archaeological dig, a ghostly sentinel, a boy with the sight, read with grace and humour, it was a fabulous read in the 90s, and is a great audio in the 2020s.

Can't wait for the next one! The heroine avoids the tstl phenomenon, the hero is sexy and fun. loved the concepts and execution of this book.
