First there was Girt. Now comes... True Girt. In this side-splitting sequel to his best-selling history, David Hunt takes us to the Australian frontier. This was the Wild South, home to hardy pioneers, gun-slinging bushrangers, directionally challenged explorers, nervous indigenous people, Caroline Chisholm and sheep. Lots of sheep.

From Jim Haynes, one of our most successful and prolific Australiana authors, comes a collection of classic Australian stories, yarns and furphies ... all of them unknown.Things are not always as they seem, or as we've been told. Was the Ghan really named after the Afghan traders, and do we really know what the Ashes are?

Fantastic book! Only issue is a lot of poems and nonsense stories at the end. A lot of fascinating people and events I never knew.

The Ashes cricket series, played out between England and Australia, is the oldest and arguably the most keenly contested rivalry in international sport. Yet the majority of the first representative Australian cricket team to tour England in 1878 in fact regarded themselves as Englishmen. In May of that year, the SS City of Berlin docked at Liverpool, and the Australians stepped onto English ground to begin the inaugural first-class cricket tour of England by a representative overseas team.

This is one of the best stories I have ever heard. If you don't even like sport it's still a great listen.
